Training and personal experience
I have always been working in the field of health, including : acupuncture, Tuina, Chinese herbal medicine, Cupping, Guasha, pressing beans on the ear, pharmacology etc., in both China and Canada, since 1994.xx
I have been in Canada since July 2013 and started working in a pharmacy in Montreal in 2014, which allowed me to know more about Canada’s state of health and Western treatments.xx
Unfortunately, I found that people overuse drugs and suffer too many side effects, such as headache, lower back pain, abdominal pain, etc… So I decided to join the order of acupuncturists of Quebec, to make the best use of my knowledge and my energies as to help Canadians improve their health.Vision of Oriental and Western medicines
Western medicine and Oriental medicine have been considered as two distinct and divergent entities. Their approaches to physiology and healing appear quite different in perspective.xx
Oriental medicine was born more than 5,000 years ago and has been developing for more than 2,000 years. MTC considers the body and further, the whole person 人, including physical organs and spiritual, mental, emotional aspect in addition to having a global view of the sky 天 (nature and temperature), the earth 地 (local) factors.xx
Western medicine separates the various systems and organs from the body and delves deeper and deeper into the particles that comprise matter.xx
The TCM practitioner makes a profile of Yin, Yang, Outside, Inside, Cold, Hot, Empty and Full (八 纲 辨证) in organs (五脏六腑) and meridians 经络, by analyzing the patient’s appearance, interrogation, pulse, language, etc., based on the theory of qi and blood, Yin and Yang, and the five elements of wood 木, fire 火, earth 土, metal 金, water 水.xx
Diagnosis based on symptoms related to the imbalance rather than diseases themselves.xx
Treatment is a holistic therapy by boosting your own healing power to heal yourself by finding the root reason of illness or discomfort. So treatment can be different even with same illness or be same with different diseases according to each case.xx
The Western doctor makes the diagnosis using a large number of modern scientific instruments (blood test, urine, stool, X-rays, isotopes or computer imaging, ultrasound etc) collected. It is a medicine based on the evidence. The treatment directly targets the pathogen or etiology, eg antibiotics kill bacteria etc.xx
TCM is suitable for patients with chronic functional problems, especially those for whom Western medicine can not find the cause, but has uncomfortable symptoms. By correcting organ dysfunction, TCM may prevent serious diseases before they are detectable by Western medicine. Compared to Western medicine, TCM, especially acupuncture, has few and less severe side effects.xx
Each approach of western medicine or oriental medicine has ideas and therapeutic methods that can be explained both scientifically and philosophically, each can benefit the individual, and together they can broaden the philosophical and ideological bases of medicine.Rate
