MASSAGE THERAPY

Clinique Altermed’s massage therapists have between 850h and 2 200h of basic training, in addition to specialties acquired through continuing studies in their field, as well as their personal experiences working in the clinical, hospital, and sports realms.

What is massage therapy?

Massage therapy is a manipulative therapy that works with the body’s soft tissue, (muscles, tendons, ligaments, fascias,) in order to alleviate sometimes very deep accumulated tension caused by or resulting in stress, injury and trauma.

For the patient, the benefits go beyond the massage therapist’s technique. The right touch and the presence of another can have a positive impact on emotional and psychic levels. The circulatory, nervous, digestive and skeletal systems also benefit from this intervention.

People often make a distinction between relaxation and therapeutic massage, but they cannot be disassociated. Without relaxation, effective intervention cannot take place. Whatever the approach, massage therapy can bring a patient calm, comfort, vitality, and a feeling of renewal.

Different Treatments

Therapists and therapies must help the patient find balance throughout his or her entire being, using both alternative and traditional means. The mind and body are interconnected.

  • Craniosacral therapy
  • Kinesitherapy
  • Sports/Prenatal/Children
  • Swedish
  • Lymphatic drainage

Who can benefit from massage therapy?

With the exception of rare medical contraindications, people of any age can benefit from massage therapy. Fever is one of the main contraindications, since the body is fighting infection and requires rest rather than stimulation.

Massage can help reduce or relieve pain and tension from many ailments or states of discomfort.

Here is a non-exhaustive list:
  • Stress
  • Fatigue
  • Low or fluctuating energy levels
  • Muscular tension, knots, numbness
  • Carpal tunnel
  • Sciatica
  • Acute or chronic pain
  • Reduced range of movement
  • Trigger points
  • Training injuries
  • Post-training
  • Post-pregnancy
  • Digestive problems (e.g. constipation)
  • Support for people living with cancer
  • Lymphatic circulation problems
  • Emotional stress
  • Insomnia
  • Soul-searching
  • Rehabilitation through touch

We invite you to visit the profiles of our massage therapists to choose the best approach for you. You can also communicate with us directly so that we can refer you to the therapist who will best meet your needs and expectations.
